Sino Iron AG Mills & Civil Works

BGC Contracting boasts a comprehensive track record for the successful completion of civil construction projects at Sino Iron for MCC Mining between 2009 and 2011.

This iconic project is located at Cape Preston, 100 kilometers south west of Karratha in Western Australia. The largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia, Sino Iron delivers a world class magnetite iron ore and is one of China's largest investments into the Australian resources sector.

AG MILL AREA CONTRACT

In total, the works comprised of more than 100,000m3 of structural concrete across four major packages of civil works.

BGC first commenced work at the site in 2009, with an initial $100 million contract for concrete installation works for the world’s largest Autogenous Grinding (AG) Mills, including 42,000m3 of concrete associated with the 6 giant AG Mills.

PIPE RACK FOOTINGS AND PEDESTALS CONTRACT

In addition to the AG Mills contract, BGC was subsequently awarded a second contract to construct the pipe rack footings and pedestals to link the Power station to all the AG and Ball Mills.

STOCKPILE TUNNEL CONTRACT

Through BGC’s success on the initial civil works packages, the BGC team fostered a strong working relationship with the client which resulted in a third contract award with MCC. This contract was for the concrete installation works on the stockpile underground tunnel, at a contract value of $70 million. The scope included the installation of 39,000m3 of concrete works on the main tunnel and reclaim tunnel, plus 5600t of further reinforcement.

OVERLAND CONVEYER FOUNDATIONS CONTRACT

Attesting to BGC’s strong commitment to delivering successful projects, MCC Mining awarded a fourth contract to the group in 2011 to construct overland conveyer foundations at Area 10 Crushing Plant.

In total, the works comprised of more than 100,000m3 of structural concrete across four major packages of civil works.

BGC Contracting’s history at Sino Iron also includes a further two contracts completed for CITIC Pacific Mining for civil work associated with the crusher slots and desalination plant.
