Parker Point Road Upgrade

Parker Point Road is the main arterial access road into the Rio Tinto Parker Point Coastal Iron Ore Processing and Loadout Facility. The facility is located in Dampier, Western Australia.

ROAD UPGRADE CONTRACT

Although numerous design changes and the addition of 13 variations challenged the BGC on site team, the group was able to deliver a successful project safely, on time and within budget.

BGC Contracting was responsible for the upgrade of the road by means of replacing the existing sealed road pavement and widening, together with the installation of a concrete footpath, subsoil drainage and gabion retaining walls.

The road upgrade replaced the existing deteriorated road with a new sealed roadway of improved standards with a 30-40 year design life. The newly constructed sealed roadway incorporated the construction of sealed road shoulders, which reduced future maintenance requirements and allowed for on road cycle utilisation. In addition, the construction of a new concrete footpath adjacent to the roadway completed the missing link between existing footpaths on Dampier Road and Dampier Esplanade.

Although numerous design changes and the addition of 13 variations challenged the BGC on site team, the group was able to deliver a successful project safely, on time and within budget.
