8 Mile Yard

8 Mile Yard is a rail yard wholly owned by Rio Tinto and located between Karratha and Dampier in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. BGC Contracting was engaged by Rio Tinto to undertake a series of civil works on the project.

Our commitment and dedication to providing quality services was commended by our client and the EPC manager (Calibre Rail), which led to an extension of $15 million in variations work on site.

CIVIL AND EARTHWORKS CONTRACT

BGC Contracting was awarded an initial contract on a schedule of day-works, which was successfully completed to a high standard. The scope comprised of earthworks construction to expand Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s facilities as part of the Rail Capacity Enhancement Project.

CONTRACT EXTENSION

Our commitment and dedication to providing quality services was commended by our client and the EPC manager (Calibre Rail), which led to an extension of $15 million in variations work on site.

Variations added to the contract included:

  • Pre-cast concrete for drainage structures.
  • In ground Services
  • Additional work fronts across the site
  • In-ground services
  • Additional Access Road construction in and around the Site.
  • Client special comments
  • The Client and EPC Manager have been impressed with BGC standard of work on site which led to the additional variation works on site.

The project was completed to a high standard from not only a quality but also a safety perspective with zero LTI and MTI’s.
