BGC Contracting Awarded Major Mining Contract for Cliffs Koolyanobbing

On the 28th of March 2013, a formal contract between Cliffs Asia Pacific Iron Ore and BGC Contracting was signed for the provision of Mining Services at their Koolyanobbing mine site. The work is for a five year term contract.

Commenting on the award, BGC Contracting CEO Greg Heylen says “I am very pleased to announce this landmark moment as this is an important contract for both BGC and Cliffs going forward. Having worked well with Cliffs for the past 8 years allowed us to secure a further 5 years of work at Koolyanobbing”

The relationship at Koolyanobbing was initially formed in 2004 with the formerly known Portman Iron Ore. In 2005, Cliffs Asia Pacific Iron Ore took control of the site upon its acquisition of Portman Mining and further developed on a strong working relationship with BGC Contracting.

The new contract commenced in January 2013 and the project itself is set to produce in excess of 55 million tonnes of ore over the course of the 5 year contract period. This award stands testament to BGC Contracting’s growth within the area of iron ore and Heylen also alluded to further developing on a solid industry position in the near future. “This award, along with other recent contract awards confirms BGC Contracting as Australia’s largest iron ore mining contractor. We are also expecting further mining services contracts in the coming months ahead which will further bolster our market position in the area of iron ore.”
